A high school student in Indianapolis responded publicly after his girlfriend received negative comments online following their prom.
Tre Booker and Madison Haulter, who had been dating for over a year, attended Pike High School’s prom together and shared photos from the night on social media.
The images showed the couple dressed for the event, with Haulter wearing a pink sequined gown and Booker matching with coordinating accessories.
While many responses were positive, at least one comment criticized Haulter’s appearance.
She later shared a screenshot of the message, writing that she did not understand why people would be rude to someone they did not know.
Support from others followed.
Several users responded with messages defending her and commenting on the couple’s relationship.
Booker also replied.
In a post directed at his girlfriend, he wrote that she was “perfect” and said he would not let the comments affect how he saw her.
His response drew additional attention online, with many users pointing to the message as an example of support within a relationship.
The couple continued to share posts about each other after the incident.
Madison’s father also spoke about the relationship, describing Booker as respectful and supportive.
As they prepared to graduate, both students said they were planning for college. Booker intended to attend Ivy Tech, while Haulter planned to study psychology at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis.
