Sharaine Caraballo and her husband, Wilson Caraballo, met 82-year-old Paul Callahan shortly after moving into their Pawtucket neighborhood in 2022.

Callahan had lost his wife several months earlier. The introduction happened when he offered Wilson a ladder while the couple was doing work around their home.

From there, the relationship grew naturally.

According to Sharaine, Callahan would regularly stop by with tools and offer advice while Wilson worked on projects around the house. Over time, the visits became more frequent, and the family began inviting him to cookouts and gatherings.

She later described him as an “honorary grandpa” to their children.

Callahan, a retired Texas Instruments manager, now visits the family regularly and has formed a close connection with the couple’s kids, who call him “Uncle Paul.”

Sharaine said he often brings small gifts and shares stories with the children during visits.

The connection has also become meaningful for the adults in the family. Sharaine noted that her husband’s father lives in the Dominican Republic, and relatives now jokingly refer to Callahan as Wilson’s dad when he comes by.

According to Sharaine, Callahan later told her he had always been a social person and enjoyed being around families and children.
