A high school senior in California attended prom with her grandfather after she was unable to find a date.
Kaylah Bell, 17, a student at Lancaster High School, shared photos from the night on social media. In the images, she is seen posing alongside her grandfather, Alvin Hackett, who wore a suit coordinated with her dress.
Bell said she had initially planned to attend prom with someone else, but those plans fell through.
Rather than skip the event, she asked her grandfather to take photos with her. He agreed and put together an outfit that matched her look, including a blue pinstripe suit with a pink tie and pocket square.
Bell wore a patterned gown in pink, purple, and blue, along with a cape inspired by historical fashion.
The two attended prom together.
Photos of the pair were later shared online, where they received widespread attention and positive responses. Many comments focused on Hackett’s outfit and the coordination between the two.
Bell said the reaction at the event itself was similar.
She said classmates and others at prom commented on the pair, noting their appearance and the fact that they arrived together.
Hackett, a church pastor, is known within the family for his style. Bell said he often coordinates outfits with her grandmother for church and other events.
Bell is expected to attend Azusa Pacific University in the fall.
