A pastor in Georgia helped raise more than $12,000 for a pregnant Waffle House server after a conversation about her unborn son reminded him of his own late child.

Eusebio Phelps first met Hannah Hill while ordering breakfast at a Waffle House in Stockbridge, Georgia.
According to Phelps, Hill stood out because of how kind and welcoming she was during the interaction. After paying for his meal, he initially left her a small tip before asking about her pregnancy.
Hill later mentioned that she planned to name her son Samuel.

For Phelps, the name carried personal meaning. His own son, Samuel, had died several years earlier, and the anniversary of his death was approaching.
After returning home, Phelps told his wife he wanted to do something more for Hill. He later shared her story online with the goal of raising money to help her prepare for the baby.
What started as a plan to collect around $1,000 quickly grew, with donations eventually surpassing $12,000 within about a day.

Hill said she had no idea the fundraiser was happening until family members called and told her to return to the restaurant.
When she arrived, customers and supporters surprised her with the donation during what Phelps described as a baby shower.

Hill later said the money would help her secure housing and transportation for her growing family.
In addition to the fundraiser, Phelps said his church also planned to help cover childcare costs for Hill’s children for a year.
The story later drew attention online, with many people focusing on how a brief conversation between strangers unexpectedly turned into ongoing support.
